Though my undergraduate studies culminated with a degree from Excelsior College, I also did undergraduate work at Elmhurst College, the College of DuPage, and the University of Illinois at Chicago (where I worked extensively with Charles Mills on race theory and social contract theory). The focus of my MA in English: Language, Literacy & Rhetoric was children’s nonfiction literature as it related to species discourse; I also received a concentration in Gender and Women’s Studies. My MA in Applied Linguistics: TESOL involved a focus on ethnographic studies of language communities, sociolinguistic analysis of class issues, and testing/curriculum development.
